I wanted to post the finished Tolkien portrait sketch. I want to eventually get around to doing a bigger composition like I mentioned in the previous post.
To finish this picture off I added darker shading and the background. I just kept layering darker pencils on top of each other, packing the graphite in and moving it around with the blending stump to give it softer look in some areas.
I think my favorite part of the picture ended up being the tie section. I just think it just worked well. To me that one section with the tie and the shirt could almost be its own composition.

It is difficult sometimes for me to know when a piece is finished. There always seems to be something else that could be better or tweaked or enhanced. I think when I am tired of working on a piece is usually when I know it is done. At some point my skill reached its limit and I have to say to myself, "There is nothing else I can do to this to make it any better." And so I give you the finished Tolkien Portrait Sketch.
